Brimwrit guide / EU GPSR readiness

Practical EU GPSR readiness guidance for US Shopify sellers shipping to the EU.

A practical sequence for organizing the product, listing, safety, policy, and EU contact information behind an EU-facing store.

Guidance, not legal advice

Brimwrit provides general guidance and manual review support. It does not provide legal advice or make a legal, regulatory, or compliance determination. This guide is general information, not a substitute for qualified legal or regulatory help for your products.

The first-audit page shows the existing one-time offer and hosted checkout, then links to the signed-in manual intake. Brimwrit reviews the source information you submit; it does not run an automated Shopify scan or produce an automated compliance result.

A preparation sequence

Five useful passes before review.

Work from scope to source records to open questions. Use the material you have, label gaps clearly, and avoid treating an organized folder as proof that a product meets a legal requirement.

  1. 01

    Define the EU sales scope

Start with the products and Shopify listings you actually offer or intend to ship to EU customers.

    • Make a working list of EU-facing products, variants, bundles, and product families.
    • Note which Shopify listings, product URLs, and images correspond to each product record.
    • Keep separate notes for products that have different manufacturers, suppliers, or safety material.
  2. 02

    Assemble product identity records

Gather the source details that make it possible to tell one product, version, or supplier record from another.

    • Product names, SKUs, descriptions, variants, category context, and available manufacturer or brand details.
    • Supplier records, packaging or label information, product images, and documents you are permitted to share.
    • Dates or versions where they are available, so current material can be distinguished from an older draft.
  3. 03

Review listings and safety information together

Compare what an EU customer sees in the online listing with the safety information and instructions you hold.

    • Listing titles, descriptions, images, product claims, warnings, precautions, and age guidance.
    • Instructions, manuals, test reports, certificates, or other supplier evidence that provides safety context.
    • Questions created by a mismatch or missing record; mark the gap instead of filling it with an assumption.
  4. 04

Record EU contact and policy details

Put the EU-side contact information and store records that may need review beside the products they relate to.

    • The EU-based responsible person or other contact information you believe applies, when available.
    • The name, address, email, and supporting records associated with that contact, if appropriate to share.
    • Store policies and product information pages, with the URLs or filenames that connect them to the relevant listings.
  5. 05

    Create a review-ready gap list

Finish by separating what is known, what is missing, and what needs a qualified person to answer.

    • List missing documents, unclear ownership, conflicting versions, and questions about a specific product record.
    • Keep the source URL, filename, or note beside each item so a reviewer can trace it back to your store materials.
    • Treat this as preparation for review—not as a pass/fail result or a legal conclusion about your products.

Before the parcel leaves

A practical EU pre-shipment checklist.

Use these checks for each EU-bound product and listing. Mark missing information as an open question; completing the list is preparation, not a compliance result.

  • Confirm the EU-bound scope

List every product, variant, bundle, and EU-facing Shopify listing you plan to ship before dispatch, including the matching SKU and product URL.

  • Match product and manufacturer identity

Check that the product name, model or identifier, manufacturer or brand details, packaging, and label records point to the same product version.

  • Review safety information and warnings

Compare the listing with the available instructions, warnings, precautions, age guidance, labels, and other safety information relevant to the product and its intended use.

  • Record the EU-side responsible-person details

For each applicable product, record the EU-based responsible person or contact information you have, including the name, address, and email, and note anything still needing qualified review.

  • Keep traceable supporting records

Before dispatch, save dated listing snapshots, label or packaging images, manuals, supplier documents, test reports, and source URLs or filenames so each record can be traced to the product.

Frequently asked questions

Practical GPSR preparation questions.

For US Shopify sellers shipping products to the EU, these prompts help organize the records a human reviewer may need. Each answer links to the relevant official EU source; use it to check the underlying requirements for your situation.

Which products should I include in an EU GPSR preparation review?
Start with the products and Shopify listings you ship or plan to offer to EU customers. Keep each product's name, SKU or other identifier, model or variant, manufacturer details, and matching listing URL together. Product scope can depend on the item and applicable product rules; check the definitions and scope in the GPSR, Articles 2 and 3.
Which listing details should I review for an EU-facing Shopify offer?
Save the listing title, description, product images, variant information, claims, warnings, precautions, and age guidance shown to a customer. Compare those details with the product identity and safety information you hold. The GPSR, Article 19 (current consolidated text) describes information to show clearly and visibly in an online or distance-sale offer for products within scope, including product identification, manufacturer details, certain EU responsible-person details, and warnings or safety information. Check the rule against your product and sales context; this guide does not interpret it for you.
What safety information and supporting records should I keep together?
Collect instructions, warnings, precautions, age guidance, labels, manuals, test reports, certificates, and relevant supplier evidence that you are permitted to share. Keep dates, versions, filenames, and the product or listing each record relates to. The European Commission product-safety overview provides official context on EU product-safety laws and risks. The GPSR, Articles 9 and 11 also describe documentation duties for manufacturers and importers; the applicable role matters.
What EU-side contact details should I prepare?
Record the EU-based responsible person or other EU-side contact you believe applies, when available, including name, address, email, and the products or records connected to that contact. If a contact is missing or you are unsure whether it applies, mark that as an open question rather than treating this guide as a determination. The GPSR, Articles 16 and 19 address the responsible-person role and related online-offer information when a manufacturer is outside the EU.
How can I use Safety Gate information without treating it as a compliance result?
Use the European Commission's Safety Gate alert portal as a reference for dangerous non-food product alerts and recalls. Note any relevant product or category questions for a qualified review; an alert search is not proof that your product is safe or compliant.
Is this guide legal advice or a compliance determination?
No. Brimwrit provides general informational guidance and manual review support. This guide is not legal advice and does not make a legal, regulatory, or compliance determination. Use a qualified legal or regulatory professional for advice about your business and products. The official EU regulation is the legal source for GPSR requirements.
